MANILA, Philippines—Lawmakers in the two chambers of Congress have filed resolutions calling for an inquiry into the mass murder believed perpetrated by an ally of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Maguindanao province.
In filing Senate Resolution No. 1491 Wednesday, Senators Benigno Aquino III and Manuel Roxas II sought an investigation and asked the chamber to condemn “in the strongest possible terms the brutal and inhuman election-related massacre and carnage of innocent civilians.”
Aquino and Roxas also joined other senators in calling on authorities to disarm the private armies in Maguindanao. Read more of Maguindanao massacre update here.
